Last day before Safari!
Today was a nice day relaxing around the lodge. I had a great time with groundskeeper Simon. He saw me trying to find the loud owls in the tree above my cottage and then he said he knew where they were and showed me where to stand to get the best view. He even mimicked their calls so they would look down at us so I could get a better photo. They were up so high that I couldn’t get any good photos on my phone, but I was able to get some on the camera.
Later, when I walked past Simon again, he asked if I had seen a chameleon yet. When I told him no he said that he would find one for me - which he did in about 5 mins. He brought it over to me on a branch and I was able to get some great shots - again on the camera and not the phone. Simon is my hero of the day!
I walked around and got some better shots of the gardens:
I got a yummy margarita pizza for lunch
And then some super cute friends came to visit. I was quite pleased that they seemed quite wild and didn’t approach anyone or try to steal anything - they stuck to gathering food from the plants.
And then later, back at my cottage, they popped by to visit again!
Tonight I got to meet my travel companions. We all met with our guide, Moses, and he gave us some info on our upcoming Safari. It turns out that the 5 other people on my tour were all on a tour together in Kenya last week. It’s kind of awkward that they all know each other so well, and that they have already spent a week seeing animals, but either it won’t matter, or I’ll just focus on the animals :)
Tomorrow we depart at 8:00am. First stop is a grocery store for snacks and an ATM for $$. Then we drive 2-3 hours to a Maasai village where we will be given a tour by the women, and then sit down to have a traditional lunch with them. After that we continue on to Lake Manyara Park and that should be the first time we see animals! Yay!!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Gorgeous photos - although I never could find the owls... or the chameleon, but what's the point of being a chameleon if you can see them! The gardens are positively lovely, thanks for sharing! And the vervet monkeys! (I think, I had to look it up) They are so cute!! And so nice they didn't bother you. Yummy looking pizza!
ReplyDeleteI hope your group turns out to be nice. Since they already know each other, maybe you and Moses will hang out.
don’t worry- the owls and chameleon are on the actual camera so I couldn’t upload them into the blog yet - those photos are for when I get home 😉
ReplyDeleteThe gardens are lovely and so are the animals.
