Tortilis Serengeti
Tortilis was an amazing place to spend two nights! It was probably my favourite so far…well, they all have their plusses, but the best part of this accommodation was the people! From the minute we arrived until we drove away in our Land Cruiser, the men at this camp were exceptional!
The Tortilis camps are located in a variety of locations. They are non permanent structures on permanent bases. This is so that they can move to be in the best locations for safari goers.
This was exactly what I was looking for in my mind, for Safari accommodations. It is the tent I always dreamed of - with electricity and plumbing. First my magnificent bed!
Every flap in the wall is screened but has a flap for closure if wanted. The solid flaps are held on by Velcro and were easily adjusted however I wanted. Inside the door was this cute little table with a mirror, lamp, flashlight, walkie talkie, and whistle in case of emergencies. There are no fences here (except around the kitchen tents) so they wanted to make sure we could always reach them. There is always someone walking around outside in case we need them at any time of night.
There was a hallway back to the bathroom, but also a second bed along the way!
Showers had to be scheduled so that you would have access to hot water when you needed it. This was simple as I always wanted mine as soon as we got back from our game drive. So I just told them as they were walking me to my tent.
There was a rack for luggage and the closet - including my compression closet. I got it thinking it would be amazing - however many places we have stayed didn’t have closets, or the bar was so weak I was worried I would break it - but it worked perfectly here.
This is a box you could lock valuables in - it is very big. There are no locks on the tent doors, so this was how you could keep things safe. I never used it as we were in the middle of nowhere - and nothing of mine got stolen.
From the outside - no idea the luxury inside…
Sunset outside my tent. I was in tent “Simba” - the best tent!
Every night they have a fire for us. This was Elia posing for me…
Dinner! Beautiful dining room tent - also a bar tent and lounge tent.
Squash soup
Beef, green beans and rice
Sunrise
Giraffe prints outside our tents
The Maasai showing us how to throw a spear, and having a contest.
Literally starting a fire by rubbing two sticks together. They work as a team, taking turns rubbing the stick so that it in continuous and no one gets too tired.
Once they get an ember they add it to elephant dung and then to the larger firewood.
Singing and dancing time!
Jumping contests
Second night dinner: Leek soup
Kingfish, veggies and potatoes
Chocolate cake
After dinner entertainment
Escorting us singing to our Land Cruiser for our final departure
More singing and dancing
What a tent. I'm sure you'll get one when you get home. And so many happy looking people, especially the ones looking after you. Tell them your Father says thanks.
