Continues to wow me every day! I forgot to mention yesterday that the sand is amazing! I don’t know how to describe the consistency…the closest I can think of is a between baking flour and granulated sugar…but definitely more like flour! So soft to walk on. And because it’s white it has a very high albedo effect so it reflects most of the sun instead of absorbing it - so even at the hottest time of the day it is usually cool! It sometimes gets warmer, but never hot. You can always have your shoes off and walk around in it. Unlike Maui where you have to run everywhere without shoes - lol! The stone pathways here are very hot in the heat however, so always good to have your shoes with you to put on if you get to a path. I had a lovely breakfast and made it to the beach, still the first to pick a chair, even though it was closer to 9am. The tide was in so I had lots of peaceful tranquility floating and swimming in the deep water - down from the boats - for about half an hour before sittin...
This is my last morning here and I didn’t want to waste it! I have woken up each morning around 7:30am without an alarm. This is very good for me, although I’m sure being in bed by 10 each evening really helps! I decided to not pack at all and just feel like it was a regular day. Check out is noon, and my transfer to the airport comes at 1pm, so I have lots of time. I had a very pretty breakfast and took my time. The manager came over to see me to say that I must have eaten somewhere else last night because he didn’t see me. He was right, I ate at Carnivorous, however in a resort with 240 rooms almost filled to capacity I was surprised he noticed. I came to this big resort to be anonymous and just blend in with crowd and be completely selfish. However I was surprised by how attentive the genuine the staff are. It is perfect. They take exceptional care of me, but without being in my way or too aggressive. It’s even better than I had hoped. I got to the main pool around 8:30am, and ...
Tortilis was an amazing place to spend two nights! It was probably my favourite so far…well, they all have their plusses, but the best part of this accommodation was the people! From the minute we arrived until we drove away in our Land Cruiser, the men at this camp were exceptional! The Tortilis camps are located in a variety of locations. They are non permanent structures on permanent bases. This is so that they can move to be in the best locations for safari goers. This was exactly what I was looking for in my mind, for Safari accommodations. It is the tent I always dreamed of - with electricity and plumbing. First my magnificent bed! Every flap in the wall is screened but has a flap for closure if wanted. The solid flaps are held on by Velcro and were easily adjusted however I wanted. Inside the door was this cute little table with a mirror, lamp, flashlight, walkie talkie, and whistle in case of emergencies. There are no fences here (except around the kitchen tents) so ...
